'She blinks, like she's surprised that a stranger is asking for an introduction.
"Oh - I'm Rose." There's a softness to her tone, but it's not comforting in the way it once was; it's reticent, now. Like she wants to apologise for her words as she says them.'
-The Destroyer of Worlds, Chapter 4.
Roseanne 'call-me-Rose' Hargrove is a powerful savant and a founding member of Pandemonium's Bane. Though she holds no explicit role beyond being a member, she is regarded as the team's 'heart and soul'. Outwardly anxious, sensitive, and compassionate, she is singular in the strength of her inner determination and devotion. Hope is not a fragile thing, and neither is she.
Rose is a female savant with dark skin and brown eyes. Her hair is black, but there are visible streaks of grey at its forefront. She stands at a height of about 1.6 meters (5 feet, 4 inches). There is a large burn scar on her left shoulder and up her left neck, and another splayed across the side of her left thigh - typically, she hides these with outfits that cover large portions of her body. At any given time, she will either look concerned, or look as though she is making an effort to hide concern.
Most people's first impressions of Rose are that she's soft-spoken, bad at eye contact, and probably couldn't harm a fly. Certainly, she's very easy to overlook when compared to her more boisterous and eccentric teammates. For her part, Rose seems most at home playing mediator between said teammates, avoiding conflict and applying a quiet kindness to diffuse it when it arises.
However, it is clear that this kindness of Rose's is not born of naivete. When faced with pushback, she does not fold, or cower; instead, she doubles down, digging her heels in until compromise can be found, or the aggressor backs off entirely. While she continues to remain tight-lipped about her past, it's common knowledge that she spent many of her teenage years as a prisoner in the Highwing Institute, and the scars that she bears imply horrors beyond even that. As such, her demeanour is a conscious choice: she chooses to be stubbornly, immovably compassionate, because she's keenly aware of what happens when people aren't. And this is a philosophy that she applies to every faucet of her life - whether it's picking apart the motivations of some evil villain, or side-eying her teammates for going too far in their teasing of one another.
Rose is also a pensive, private person. Sometimes, rather than egage with anyone else, she will instead seclude herself, and ruminate. It is unclear what, exactly, she thinks about during these long moments of reflection - the sadness in her eyes, however, as well as the stillness of her form, are indication enough.
Most of the team probably doesn't know Rose as well as they think they do, or even as well as they want to. That being said, there is no doubt in a single person's mind: Rose cares for them. If she has one defining trait, it is that, above all else, she cares.
As a savant, Rose possesses the ability to create immersive illusions. Not only can she make her targets see whatever she wants to see, but she can also manipulate their other senses, such as touch, to create an experience indistinguishable from reality.
Furthermore, she appears to be able to draw on memories and emotions from the minds of whoever she influences, as her illusions are often filled with personal knowledge that she may never have been told. This is not conscious, on her part - she is unable to actively read minds, or find specific information if she's looking for it. Instead, it's an instinct, intertwined with her power but otherwise beyond her control.
The only limits to her powers appear to be self-inflicted. For unknown, possibly psychosomatic reasons, Rose's illusions are limited to conjuring the target's worst fears, and using the total immersion of her worlds to torment them. While the reasons for this are unclear, and Rose herself is reluctant to speculate, it is theorised that the trauma of her years in Highwing warped her power, shaping it into a defensive reflex that hurts people before they can hurt her. Additionally, Rose claims that she struggles to influence more than one person at a time - however, there remains no proof of this aside from her say-so.
Beyond her powers, Rose has the strength and capabilities of a regular human. Highwing left her weak and emaciated, but the intervening time since her escape has seen her health restored. She has never recieved formal combat training; however, she's picked up various tricks during her tenure with Pandemonium's Bane. She is good at improvisation, and desparation will have her fighting with a savagery that few cornered animals can match. Finally, she is an effective shot-caller - it's so rare for her to be openly assertive that, when she does give an order, people will listen.

Rose implores him to come with her so that he can help her rescue someone from within the facility. When they get there, however, they clash - Aaron wants to save everyone, while Rose wants to just save Jacen and then escape. Ultimately, Aaron takes the matter out of Rose's hands by releasing Gaia, who then takes it out of ALL of their hands by going on a rampage. 'But then, before I can even think to do anything... He gets the most vacant look on his face, and he stops dead, and he lets me go. And then he slowly turns off to the side, and that's where Rose is standing. And she just STARES at him. She didn't say anything - she didn't even make a face - she was just staring him down with wide eyes.
This fucking guy turns white as a ghost, and then just turns away from us and begins to walk away without a word. Without a WORD. He's gone. And I know that Rose had something to do with it, so I turn to her and I'm like, "what did you do?"
And she's just like, "I spent some time with him,"'
